Ashtanga Yoga is the oldest form of yoga that was first invented by Vamana Rishi who later wrote details about it in “Yoga Korunta”, an ancient manuscript. According to this manuscript- “there is a list of different types of ‘asanas’, drishti, bandhas, mudras, and philosophy”.
The writings of “Yoga Karunta” were imparted to Sri. T. Krishnamacharya in the early 1900s by his tutor Guru Rama Mohan Brahmachari. These preachings were later passed down to Pattabhi Jois by Krishnamacharya in the year 1927. Since 1948, Pattabhi Jois has been teaching Ashtanga Yoga in India & across the world from his Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute.
According to a book called “Yoga Sutras” written by Maharishi Patanjali, Ashtanga Yoga actually means ‘8-limbed yoga’. In Sanskrit, ‘Asht’ means 8 & ‘Ang’ means limbs. Thus, Ashtanga means 8 limbs. According to Maharishi Patanjali, it is a path of internal purification of revealing one’s universal self by following 8 spiritual practices. It is well-established and efficient tool to live a disciplined life that reduces one’s sufferings and helps in achieving self-realization.
Those 8 limbs of yoga as mentioned by Patanjali are- Yama (moral codes), Niyama (self-purification), Asana (posture), Pranayama (breath-control), Pratyahara (sense-control), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation) and Samadhi (absorption of self into the universe).
The 200 Hrs. Ashtanga Yoga Training Course (YTC) is meant for those people who are new to yoga and have little or no knowledge of various yoga styles. This is a basic or preliminary course in Ashtanga style also known as the Mysore style of yoga. It is meant for those people who wish to practice yoga on daily basis, and wish to improve their health and lifestyle. This course is basically designed for beginners who are new to Ashtanga yoga and have not done in before, but who wish to learn and experience its fundamentals.
The course includes Ashtanga Yoga primary series, Pranayama, Meditation, Kriyas and Alignment. After doing the 200 Hr. Ashtanga Yoga Training Course (YTC), students can also pursue it as a carrier & can become Ashtanga Yoga Trainer or Instructor in fitness centers, gyms & other private institutions.
The 200 Hr. Ashtanga Yoga Training Course (YTC) is an 8-10 hours program on a daily basis. It will include classes on pranayama, meditation, Principles & elements of yoga, Philosphy, Yoga Sutras, and how to live a yogic life through body cleansing activities. Complete ‘Study Notes’ will also be provided for this along with access to library and recommendations to buy specific book/s to further increase your knowledge about Ashtanga Yoga. No classes are held on Sunday as students are taken out for 2 outings to either tourist destinations or to religious places including the famous “Ganga Aarti” on the banks of river Bhagirathi/Ganga.
Students will also get access to free wi-fi/internet to their mobiles & laptops along with healthy yogic food thrice a day to take care of their daily body’s physical requirements.
